New York State History Day Introduction

nyshdIan Livingston’s grade 8 social studies students learned the basics of how to choose and develop projects to submit to the New York State and National History Day competition on March 20, 2010. The theme for 2010 is “Innovation in History.”

Two dynamic presenters, John Buchinger and Tobi Voigt , gave students a lesson in how to choose a meaningful project, find credible resources, develop a thesis statement, and craft a solid argument using a variety of primary and secondary resources. The Library of Congress website was recommended as an excellent resource, including America’s Story and American Memory.  Buchinger and Voigt gave a well organized and upbeat presentation. Fantastic program. Thanks to the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration for this resource.
