November 4 & 5 2009 Mr. Tepper’s grade 7 Spanish class and Mr. Blake’s grade 8 art class learned about El Día de los Muertos (Day of Dead) and how it is celebrated in Mexico.
Grade 7 students wrote calaveras (poems) in preparation for the conference. “Calavera” in Spanish means “skull” and also refers to humorous imaginary poetic obituaries printed in newspapers and used to poke fun at people who are still living (such as politicians or other public figures).
