May 8, 2009 Jackie Perich’s students introduced themselves to Deanne Martin’s kindergarten class and read Max stories by Rosemary Wells. The Sloatsburg students showed off their paper Max puppets that they had made and then asked questions about the stories. A fun time all around! Thanks to Christine Morciglio, Library Media Specialist at Sloatsburg and both classroom teachers for helping to make this read aloud happen. See more photos on Flickr

SMS GRADE 8 STUDENTS: Practice Session

May 7, 2009 Jackie Perich’s eighth grade students rehearsed today for a read aloud session with Sloatsburg Elementary kindergarten students. Not only did the students practice reading, presentation and speaking skills. There was also quite a bit of discussion on how to engage the younger students. The students decided to begin the session with an introduction, read one picture book, allow for Q&A time and then gauge the interest level of the younger students before reading another book. The eighth graders also decided to finish the session with a discussion about Mother’s Day. The event will take place on Friday, May 8 at 11:20.
